CROWNFISH BY JOHN HOBBS

Director John Hobbs’ vision of turning an image of a penguin and a beauty queen into a short film was to dial up the oddity. Since he already found the picture dream-like, his objective was to have fun with it and leave enough room for the audience to fill in the blanks on their own. John Hobbs was an award-winning art director for many years before becoming a film and commercial director.

Enemy gunfire. Explosions. For five soldiers, the mission started out like all the others. Suddenly, trapped by the enemy, they escape through a bamboo tunnel and find their way back to base camp. Only one problem…it’s deserted. Soon, strange things begin to happen: A beautiful woman appears out of thin air. Strange creatures shrouded in black surround the camp. Stuck with nowhere to run and forced to look within, one by one, each soldier must face his destiny and question his existence. Is it possible that man can alter his own fate? Can one man, Captain Jason Briggs, lead his men to discovery? Or will they be… Lost at War?

THE THIRD FESTIVAL OF TRAILERS IN TRZEBNICA 2008
11-13.07.2008
THE CINEMA ON BEDS
The third edition of the trailers festival is starting! Between 11th and 13th July 2008 Trzebnica is turning into the cinema on beds (200 beds!), which is the only one such event in Poland and in the world!
This year we are going back to the sources of the cinema. Willfully giving up the urban crowd, multiplexes and air-conditioned rooms, choosing the climate of nature and creating an idyllic atmosphere we want you to distance from the everyday lifestyle. We want to confront the speed of the modern life and the charm and piece of Trzebnica. Feel invited to the festival!
WHY TRAILERS?
The leading form of the festival is a trailer. It promotes a certain film in the possible shortest time and encourages the spectator to watch it. But it is not only the commercial. It happens, that a trailer is better than a film itself. Nowadays a trailer is perceived a sort of art.
Because of the evolution of this genre (in October 2008 begins the first edition of the Trailers festival in Hollywood. So, we are the first!), we are going to present not only the trailers of the PREMIERES from all over the world but also the trailers of the films from the 70s and 80s as well as pre-war movies.
BUT NOT ONLY?
We will also see other short forms with the same text intensification:
- world’s best documents (DOC REVIEW),
- world’s most controversial adverts (WORD AD FESTIVAL),
- best animations (ReANIMACJA)
- clips to the motion pictures.
And also:
- world’s worst films, among them Ed Wood?s productions,
- newest full-length film productions,
- concerts to the silent cinema: Music: Tymon Tymański, Krzysztof Ścierański, Henryk Gembalski, Bernard Maseli, Mamadou Diouf, Włodzimierz Kiniorski, Tadeusz Sudnik, Marcin Krzyżanowski. Voice: Maria Seweryn, Marek Bałata, Karolina Glazer, Jaś Kapela.
- discussions with the trailers’ creators, among them Mariusz Michalik
- NEW! Improvised dubbing to the silent movies! Everything on live!
Programming director: Sławomir Fijałkowski / Artistic Director: Robert Baliński

TRAILER 4 FOR MANIC
TRAILER 4 FOR MANIC
http://bulletfilm.com/movie/270
Maniac started out as a serious film but it quickly was changed into a horror spoof after signing on David “The Rock” Nelson to film a scene. I could see after that it was going to work better as a spoof of slasher films. So the opening scene will be serious as sort of a set up before it shows it’s true colour as a horror spoof. Besides David Nelson I have scenes with Conrad Brooks and Travis Bowen. The film follows the killings by a maniac who may have some cannibalistic tenancies. I’ve been having the usual trouble of getting enough actors to fill roles. That and money slows things down but hopefully this year I finish it. I started filming just a little over two years ago in Ohio and PA. I’m also looking for more “celebrities” willing to work for free just for the fun. Anyway I’m constantly re-writing it as I go along.
