LIFE IS A JOKE BY CHRIS MITCHELL
LIFE IS A JOKE BY CHRIS MITCHELL

Strongly recommended for Monday morning to cheer you up.
From executive producer Tony Clark comes a short film that brings jokes to life. “Life’s a joke” is the story of a man who’s not getting any…jokes, or the other thing. Adolph Shultz (Chris Mitchell) has no sense of humor and his wife is cheating on him. He visits psychiatrist, Dr. Bellum, played by Carl Ballantine (McHale’s Navy, Speedway), and is informed that stress is killing him. So the man walks into a bar, the jokes continue all around him, fast and furious, but Adolph is oblivious.
His best friend Bucky (Lancer Shull) tries to cheer him up, but after too many drinks, Adolph ends up in St. Bernard’s Hospital under the care of Dr. Howard, played by Rome Mendheim. Our unfortunate protagonist is surrounded by hospital humor, yet still doesn’t heed the sage advice of Dr. Bellum and ends up face to face with a comical St. Peter, played by veteran comic, Bruce Baum (Make Me Laugh, The Simpsons).
Will Adolph discover the error of his ways and finally get some? We can’t give away all the punch lines here.
Chris Mitchell wrote “life’s a joke” and co-directed the short along with Gregor Joackim, whose feature film, “The Trouble With Lou” won the Moviemaker Breakthrough Award at the Slamdance Film Festival in 2001. The short also features the talents of Jeanne Lombardelli as Judy, Adolph’s cheating wife, Eric Buss as The Lounge Singer, R.A. Mihailoff (Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III), Eddie Driscoll (Jersey Boys), Rebecka Zamolo (The Portal), Bob Rusch (Wizard of Gore), and Allison Spiegel (The Bloodstained Bride).
“Life’s a joke” will be hitting the festival circuit very soon and hopefully be made into a feature. “Making this film has been a two year process.” says Mitchell. “I feel like I told a joke in 2005, and I’m still waiting to hear the laughter. I’m very excited to finally see this thing on the big screen and hear the audience response.”

1000 JOURNALS was at the official Selection AFI FEST and Official Selection Berlinale Special.
From what I can see just in a trailer 1000 JOURNALS is one of those documentaries that I would love to watch. The idea for the film is so simple but at the same time mind blowing. Fantastic camera work.
The trailer is not that long so you have to watch it and believe you are going to love it.

The Synopsis
THIS IS BASED ON A TRUE EVENTS. When young aspiring English photo journalist, Kate Osman, gets off the plane in Kosovo, her friend Sophie Leclaud, an international news correspondent, takes her on a journey of discovery….. The great unresolved conflict of The Balkans.
Sophie tells Kate about the story she is working on about two families, one Albanian the other Serbian – friends and neighbours thrown into conflict by the war between the two nations in 1999 over the ownership of Kosovo. ….Dr Alban Bregu is the village doctor. An Albanian whose patients include his neighbour, Dragan Mulutinovic, a Serb, who lives in the village with his beautiful wife Slavica and ageing father, Milan. When Milan becomes increasingly ill – it is Alban who is there to administer drugs and friendly support. As Milan says, Alban is a “brave old Albanian”.
Alban’s bravery is tested when he receives a threat to “Stop treating our enemies, or DIE!” However before this threat becomes a reality, the entire village is thrown into panic and mass exodus by the imminent invasion of the Serbian army.
Dr. Alban and his wife, Teuta, have to flee their home, taking with them their two children and Alban’s mother Xhevrije. But his proud and fearless father, Tefik, refuses to leave the house. “I want to see the face of the Serb who burns down my home”, he says defiantly. Alban and his family find shelter with other members of the village in a nearby forest. Here we meet Besnik, an aspiring member of the Kosovo Liberation Army. But he’s an outsider, bitter and hugely disturbed by the death of his father he blames everyone for his plight. He treats Dr. Alban as a Serbian collaborator. Besnik knows that Alban has Serbian patients. What is more, Besnik’s mother is missing, feared killed by Serbs. Besnik is incandescent with rage against Alban. His murderous plots are thwarted by Alban’s wife, Teuta, until finally Besnik has the good doctor in a trap from which there seems no escape. Can Dr Alban survive?

GIRL-WOMAN is a selection of pictures and paintings. The short is caring vastly important message to women around the world.
I like the film because it’s simple and very powerful at the same time, which only shows that art doesn’t have to be complicated to be influential.
Shouldn\’t equality of status be a matter of course?

BEYOND by Andrew A. Popescu
BEYOND by Andrew A. Popescu

I am not a great fan of horrors for simple reason they scare me to death.
However BEYOND is more of a thriller than horror. I like the camera work. The story reminds me of the short mysterious stories I write or short mysterious films I make.
BEYOND is strongly recommended to anyone who is interested in Central/Eastern European cinema. Cinema that always provides an alternative to the Western films.
Taking a short cut, off the main road, a young couple has their world turned upside down when they get into the middle of an apocalyptic rain and try to fight dread and terror of the world around them.
